BLUE CANTON by Mottahedeh:

Blue Canton was regarded as the "special" china of the colonial elite in North America.

The simple monochromatic blue porcelain was considered the height of elegance.

Originally made in China (the Canton region), it is now lovingly reproduced in Portugal, just as the Chinese made it.  The signature gray-blue color can only be produced by using naturally occurring cobalt, an element mined out of the ground in what was once Persia.

217 pieces of hand-painted Blue Canton were found on the Hermitage property and are in the Archaeology Collection.
