Custom wood-crafter Dale Penn has been crafting pens from domestic hardwoods in Tennessee since 1996. Each pen is individually hand-crafted with great care.

Our Cross-style Pen & Pencil Sets are crafted from felled trees on the Hermitage grounds.

Comes in a hinged wooden box.

The pen is a twist pen: turn right to open, turn left to close. To refill, simply pull and twist to separate the top and bottom parts, then unscrew and replace the "Cross-style" ballpoint refill (available at office supply stores and online).

The pencil advances the .7mm lead by clicking the top. To replace the lead, remove the metal top (the clicker), then the eraser. Insert the .7mm lead, replace the eraser, then the metal top.

Both instruments come already loaded with ink and lead.

 Wood choices:

  • cherry  (silver or gold accents)
  • walnut (silver or gold accents)
  • tulip poplar (silver or gold accents)

Each pen comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, declaring the wood was harvested from trees felled during the 1998 tornado at Andrew Jackson's Hermitage.

A tornado on April 16, 1998, toppled more than 1,200 trees on the Hermitage property. Andrew Jackson himself directed the planting of many of the trees damaged or destroyed by the storm. The majority of the fallen trees were the oldest and largest specimens on site, with an average circumference greater than eight feet.
