In 1804. Andrew Jackson purchased a farm which he called The Hermitage. The mansion was built between 1819 and 1821, a simple brick home in the Federal style, which was a conservative choice for that time. In 1831, major remodeling took place. The library, dining room wings, and a one-story colonnade of ten columns were added.  In 1834, a fire destroyed the upper story and damaged the lower rooms. The rebuilding was finished in 1836 and was a strong statement of the fashionable Greek Revival style.

In 1837, Jackson retired to The Hermitage, and from there continued to be influential in both state and national politics until his death in 1845.

Our Hermitage cross stitch kit features The Hermitage mansion flanked by its historic cedar trees with Andrew Jackson's signature. Made in the USA.
