In 1804. Andrew Jackson purchased a farm which he called The Hermitage. The mansion was built between 1819 and 1821, a simple brick home in the Federal style, which was a conservative choice for that time. In 1831, major remodeling took place. The library, dining room wings, and a one-story colonnade of ten columns were added.  In 1834, a fire destroyed the upper story and damaged the lower rooms. The rebuilding was finished in 1836 and was a strong statement of the fashionable Greek Revival style.

This cross stitch design includes the mansion and its adjacent cedar trees, the log cabin that the Jacksons first lived in before the mansion was built, the garden, the tomb where the Jacksons are buried, and the church that Jackson had built as a favor to his wife Rachel.  Also included is Jackson's signature and his famous remark about the importance of preserving the Union. Made in the USA.
